Peaks and Plains recognise the positive impact a local lettings policy can have on creating a sustainable and diverse community. Due to the nature of a new build scheme and multiple lets occurring at the same time the provision of a local letting policy is felt necessary. The local letting policy is aimed to achieve:
- A balanced and sustainable community- Prevent and reduce ASB or nuisance to both the local and wider community- Provide housing for local residents.
This approach complies with the government’s guidance issued through the Allocation of Accommodation: Guidance for Local Housing Authorities in England (DCLG, June 2012). This guidance allows councils and housing providers to use local lettings policies to achieve a wide range of policy objectives.
The local lettings policy will apply to initial lets and thereafter the local allocation policy will be applied.
Under this policy, preference will be give to applicants who:
• have a local connection to the High Peak area (in line with the Home-Options Allocation policy)• can provide evidence that they are in employment (for 50% of the available properties)• are aged 25 years and over (for 50% of the available properties).
This policy was subject to public consultation via this website from 4 August to 21 August 2016. Feedback and comments were considered before the policy was adopted.
